Getting here

We have a special website for travelers to RoboCup 2007 Atlanta. It contains information tailored to your trip, and for some specific countries.

Participants should arrive in Atlanta at the Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. Direct flights are available from most major cities around the world. A visa is required for citizens of certain countries to the US. Visit the United States Visas website for additional information.

From the airport, take our metro service (MARTA) to the 10th Street Station. Georgia Tech trolleys will take you to the residence halls and the main venues.

You can also visit the Atlanta Visitors Guide website for more information about Atlanta.

Shipping

We have set up a receiving center at Georgia Tech for the express purpose of receiving robots and other equipment for RoboCup 2007.

All costs for shipping to Georgia Tech, and then back to your university must be handled by you. When you arrange shipping to Atlanta, please also arrange for shipping back to your university.

We accept responsibility for your equipment when it arrives at Georgia Tech. Your crates will be delivered to the appropriate venue when that venue opens. After the competition we will transport the crates back to our receiving center to be picked up by the shipping companies.

Selecting a shipper

We recommend that you use UPS, FedEx or DHL to ship your equipment to RoboCup 2007. If you prefer another shipper we urge you to select an international shipping company with a strong presence in the US. This is important because it will help ensure that your equipment moves quickly through customs.

Your shipper should provide these important services:

Tracking: Every package should be labelled with a unique tracking number. You should be able to find the status of your package at any time via the internet or toll free telephone.

Customs clearance or customs brokerage service: This means that the shipper accepts responsibility for moving your packages through customs. Sometimes there is an extra charge for this.

Customs clearance and duties

Customs clearance is your responsibility. This is most easily handled by your shipper for an additional fee.

Packages with a declared value of less than $2,000 move through customs more easily. In some cases duties (taxes) must be paid for equipment imported to the US. Again, this is your responsibility. We cannot accept shipments with outstanding duty or shipping costs.

You may find it useful to purchase a Carnet for your items. This is a document that certifies you will return the items back to your country. You must pay a refundable deposit toget a Carnet.

Size and weight limits

Due to the limits of our freight elevator, crates cannot be larger than 1.5 meters (5 feet) in any dimension.

Crates should weigh no more than 70 kilograms (150 pounds).

Shipping address

Please address your packages as follows. Note that it is very important that you identify the league you are competing in so we can get your package to the correct venue. It is also important that you clearly label your return address so we know who the package belongs to. We suggest that you use the name of your team leader as the first line on the return address.
